It’s ambition fulfilled for The Sunday Times journalist Anna Mikhailova; the For the Money section reporter/interviewer has had her first book published. Philosophy, Politics and Economics Oxford graduate Anna is the co-author of From Banking to the Thorny World of Politics with Shaukat Aziz, the former prime minister of Pakistan.

Shaukat AnnaThe memoir charts Aziz leaving a 30-year career as a senior Citibank executive to join the military regime in Pakistan following the 1999 coup.

He becomes the country’s finance minister before becoming prime minister in 2004. He steers a major economic turnaround and survives a suicide bombing by Al Qaeda, which drove him to engage in the fight against global terrorism.

The book features interviews with major figures such as former US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, ex-British PM Tony Blair and former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

Anna: “I have always wanted to write a book. Shaukat Aziz is a wonderful person to work with. Seeing how he operates has been a real privilege. It’s been an incredible experience.”
