TOFU LANDING
Sex, drugs and modern art

Evan Maloney

“If you arrive in London knowing nobody then you have the power of an actor improvising on a stage.”

Set in London at the start of the 21st Century, Tofu Landing brilliantly evokes the madness of our times. It follows the exploits of a group of wildly unpredictable nouveaux-Bohemians - The Posse - as they tear up London searching for the next high.

Declan Twist arrives in London desperate to forget his past. He moves into The Posse’s East London flat at the same time as Tristan Russell, an indie-rock star whose love for hard drugs is matched only by his taste for young groupies. By comparison, Declan’s life is lacking direction: he reviews films on a little-watched cable-television show and writes occasionally about art. He believes that he is falling in love with Juliet, a wealthy project manager at a large pharmaceutical company who prefers to date men half her age. The posse members are all searching for something: fame, sex, drugs, respect, love, an escape from the past, sometimes all at once. Most of them find what they seem to be looking for one way or another, but still, the illusive search for happiness continues, even after tragedy strikes.

This is a belated coming-of-age story for the X generation who partied too hard, for too long and got lost along the way. It is a tribute to finding yourself, finding the beauty in the world and finally, finding the power of real love.
